Dive team trains with National Guard on Beech Lake

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — The West Tennessee Dive, Rescue and Recovery Team held a joint training exercise Tuesday with the Tennessee National Guard on Beech Lake in Lexington.

NG water search trainingA Remote Operated Vehicle, or ROV, gives members of the dive and rescue team the ability to operate independently without having to put a diver in the water up to a depth of 500 feet.

The ROV has front- and rear-mounted cameras that allow a positive identification of what’s in the water.

“We have utilized this in training episodes throughout Henderson County and all the lakes in Henderson County, and we have also been on site real-world on an event that occurred in Henderson County two years ago,” said Steve Deaton, lead diver for West Tennessee Dive, Rescue and Recovery.

Members of the dive, rescue and recovery team say this is the only ROV in the state of Tennessee.
