Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Week: Clayton Ramsey
JACKSON, Tenn. — This week’s Educator of the Week presented by the Tennessee Education Lottery is from right here in Jackson.
“My mother and my grandmother instilled hard work in me,” Ramsey said. “Neither one of them had a very formal education, but they both worked very hard.”
Ramsey said it was his grandmother who encouraged him and inspired him to become a teacher.
“Upon my grandmother passing on, she asked me would I please complete my teaching degree, at least give teaching a try. So I made a promise to her. That is why I do believe I became a teacher,” Ramsey said.
He said he cherishes the moments he has with his second grade class that brighten his day.
“They always just to be ‘Mr. Ramsey, Mr. Ramsey,’ telling me every little thing. That’s just exciting, first thing in the morning. ‘Mr. Ramsey, can I move your clips, can I move your men, can I do this, can I do that,’ just constantly how they do want to help regardless.”
He said he wouldn’t be able to be successful in the classroom if it wasn’t for the help and support of his co-workers.
Ramsey will now be eligible for the statewide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award. Starting in November, to vote for him or any of the other nominees, visit seehowitaddsup.com.
