Humboldt looks to keep rolling

HUMBOLDT, Tenn — Humboldt basketball coach Ronald Abernathy is in his third season as the vikings head basketball coach. With a group of experienced seniors, he challenged them this off season to be better. Starting in the weight room, hiring a full time strength and conditioning coach, which he say’s has paid dividends so far.

“[It] has allowed us to play up and down the court at a fast pace, which has allowed us to be physically strong and actually mentally tough,” Abernathy said.

The team says being in top notch shape also helps boost their confidence, which allows them to unleash the beast within themselves.

“Turning from a human to an animal,” Carlton Childs said, the teams starting point guard.

“The kind of personality we have, I’m not really worried about scoring, but I want to be able to win the game from a defensive stand point,” Abernathy said.

The team has done that thus far averaging 79 points per game while only allowing 55 through nine games.

The Vikings will look to stay strong on the defensive end Thursday night when they take on Greenfield.
