‘Men on the Move’ tour visits Selmer Elementary School

SELMER, Tenn. — Bus riders at Selmer Elementary School smiled a little brighter Thursday morning as they walked into school, thanks to a few special guests.

LaShell Moore, a teacher at Selmer Elementary, wanted to increase the number of positive role models at her school and did so by inviting members of the community to serve as encouraging and cheerful greeters as students arrived at school.

“I saw a lot of big smiles today on the children’s faces, so that was an encouragement to us as well as the men that were here to help us out,” Moore said.

Moore says she got the idea from Jackson City Councilman Johnny Dodd and his success with the Men on the Move program in Jackson.

Organizers hope the program will continue and grow, bringing in more people from the community.
