According to Hardin County EMA and Fire Department officials, a truck hit a train on Highway 57 in Counce around 10:00 a.m., Wednesday. Officials said no one was injured, but the truck did tear a hole in the train's diesel tank. "The trains here are only allowed to go about ten miles an hour down the track here. They were not moving at a fast speed at all," said Hardin County Fire Department Captain Daniel Sliger. They estimate nearly 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled, and the highway was shutdown for more than two hours.

EMA officials believe the clean up will take about two days. They hope to finish before the next rainfall, because that could cause the fuel to spread underground. County officials tell us it is taking a bit longer to clear the crash site because the cleaning crews are coming from Mississippi, Kentucky and Alabama.  The highway remains open as the clean up continues.
