It is now time
for college students to start preparing for the fall
semester and that includes applying for financial aid.
However, state leaders warn as deadlines approach, more
scams seem to be coming to light.
Consumer experts
say students and families have received letters with
government-like seals, urging them to pay $50 or more to
apply for aid.
Applying for
financial aid and filling out the free application for
federal student aid, or FAFSA, is free and can be done
online or at your school's financial aid office.
Also, here are
some important deadlines to remember when applying for
financial aid.
For the
Tennessee Student Assistance Award, applications must be
received by February 15, while the application deadline for
the Tennessee Hope Scholarship is September 1.
The
Jackson-Madison County School System is holding a workshop
at Jackson State Community College for High School seniors
and their parents to offer guidance in the financial aid
process. The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, February
6
at 9 a.m.
To reserve a space, call Jackson State at (731) 664-2515.
