Students
and teachers at Haywood Elementary spent part of their
day on "high alert" after police feared a man who they
believe shot two people just hours before may be headed
to their school. They believed he may have been on his
way to pick up his child.
That man, Melvin Taylor,
36, never showed up at the school. In fact,
investigators believe he is on the run and may be in
Crockett County or Shelby County.
According to police,
Taylor showed up at the Bluebird Manor Apartment Complex
just before 2 a.m. with a friend. They said Taylor and
the friend walked into one of the apartments, then got
into an argument with the people inside. That is when
investigators believe Taylor shot two men in the torso.
One man was sent to the
Med in Memphis. The other was sent to Jackson-Madison
County General Hospital. Both men were in critical
condition at last check.
Now, police plan to
charge Taylor with two counts of attempted murder. He
stands 5' 10", weighs 220 pounds, and has brown hair and
black eyes. If you have any information about his
whereabouts, call Brownsville Police.
