Event Description
If skies are clear, come to Pinson Mounds March 9th and 16th for a free public comet viewing! C/2011 L4 (PanSTARRS) is a non-periodic comet that will be visible to our area in early March, and then follow a northerly trek every evening through April. This is the first of two comets that will be viewable to the unaided eye in 2013. Bring binoculars and dress for the weather... and bring your questions and curiosity, too! (Rain date of March 13th; skies must be cloudless for these events.)
Pinson Mounds State Archaeological Park and Forked Deer Astronomy use the natural backdrop of a comet to create a free-to-the-public astronomy program. Using telescopes and binoculars, this outdoor event is an introductory to the hobby of amateur astronomy, and a resource to learn about the unique phenomena that occur in our solar system. This event requires clear skies, so please check the forecast for Pinson, TN before attending.
