Event Description

WOMEN OF A NEW TRIBE
The Winter of Grace
An Exhibition Celebrating the Beauty and Wisdom of Haywood County’s Elderly Women
The Women of a New Tribe is a photographic exhibit of the spiritual and physical beauty of African American women and portrays them in a new light and in new ways. The national exhibit consists of well over 90 powerful images of women of all ages and all walks of life. The local exhibit will include photographs of women from all over the nation as well as photographs of Haywood County women who are 75+ years old.
Since its premier in June 2002, the Women of A New Tribe exhibition has traveled to a number of cities in the USA and Europe where it has been enthusiastically received by the public and the media.
The subjects are photographed by renown photographer and Brownsville native, Jerry Taliaferro, and are portrayed in black and white in a style reminiscent of the glamour photographs of the 1930's and 1940's. The photographs allow an unfettered view to the natural beauty of the women.
The exhibition will be housed at the Dunbar Carver Museum, 709 E. Jefferson Street, Brownsville, TN, beginning Sunday, April 21 thru Friday, June 21, 2013. You are cordially invited to the Opening Reception on Sunday, April 21, from 3:00 - 5:00. After the reception, the exhibit is free and open to the public to view from April 21 through Friday, June 21, 2013, on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from I:00 - 5:00 PM.
Women of a New Tribe is more than an exhibition; it is a powerful tribute to the beauty of African American women.
