GRANT WRITING BASICS WORKSHOP – THURSDAY, MARCH 22, 2018
 
JACKSONTN – The Jackson Madison County African American Chamber of Commerce will kick off its 2018 business development activities with a GRANT WRITING BASICS WORKSHOP on ThursdayMarch 22, 2018, 9am to 1pm at TheCO541 Wiley Parker Rd.   In partnership with The Assisi Foundation of Memphis and TheCo, the workshop will be led by Assisi Foundation Executive Director Dr. Jan Young.  The Assisi Foundation works with nonprofit organizations in selected communities to address “pressing challenges” in order to foster community-wide transformation that improves the lives of residents.  Key areas of focus include health and human services, education and literacy, social justice and ethics, and cultural enrichment and the arts.  Since its formation in 1994, the Foundation has awarded more than $204 million to nonprofit organizations serving people, primarily in Memphis. YOUTH SUMMER PROGRAM REGISTRATION – MARCH 26-APRIL 2 (SPRING BREAK)
JACKSONTN — The Jackson Madison County African American Chamber of Commerce (JMCAACC) will open registration for its free eight-week Follow Me Into Business® workforce development and summer jobs program for ages 12-18 during Spring Break —Monday, March 26 through Monday, April 2, 2018.  Parents and guardians of junior high and high school students may pick up registration packets at Nell Huntspon Flower Box, 351 North Royal St.  Completed forms for all ages must be returned to the shop bySaturday, April 7, to be eligible for consideration.  Orientations for parents and their 12-15 year olds will be held in May 3 and May 5. The summer program for ages 12-15 will meet Thursdays and Fridays from June 7 through July 27, 2018.  The program for 16-18 year-olds will meet from 9am to noon on Wednesdays in June and, if successful, may be assigned to paid jobs and internships during the month of July. Participants are assigned to work at member businesses and nonprofits.  Funding for wages is generally provided through a grant from the City of Jackson. Founded by the African American Chamber in 1999, the Follow Me Into Business® program is free of charge and open to children living in Jackson and Madison County.###
 
 
WEST TENNESSEE BUSINESS SHOWCASE
AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE – SATURDAY, JULY 14, 2018
 
JACKSONTN — The Jackson Madison County African American Chamber of Commerce will host its full-day, regional business development conference for small business owners in July.  The second West Tennessee Business Showcase and Economic Development Conference (WTBS-EDC) on SaturdayJuly 14, 2018, 8am to 4pm at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 1770 Highway 45 Bypass in Jackson. In addition to showcasing “million-dollar” Black-owned businesses, the conference will focus on business management, finance and banking, marketing, procurement and management of contracts and contracts, and much more.  Event sponsorships and community sponsorships are available along with exhibit tables and booklet ads. 8TH ANNUAL FOLLOW ME CELEBRITY GOLF CLASSIC – TUESDAY, SEPT. 11, 2018
 
The 8th Annual Follow I Celebrity Golf Classic hosted by the Jackson Madison County African American Chamber of Commerce (JMCAACC) will be held on Tuesday morning, September 11, 2018, at Bent Tree Golf Course2993 Paul Coffman Drive.  Tee time is 8:30am. Registration opens at 7:00 a.m.
 
Tournament Co-chairs are  Ted Austin of Jackson Energy Authority (JEA) and Charley Deal of the University ofTennessee at Martin (UTM).  This year’s Celebrities for the Day recognition will highlight first responders.
