McNairy central guard Stuart Littlejohn has been a starter for the Bobcat basketball team since his freshmen year.

The coaches at McNairy have come to expect on-court leadership from Stuart since that time, but it's Stuart’s influence away from the gym that have earn him this week's Champion of Character award.

“Volunteering is just a way to give back to other people. It’s just something that’s important to me,” said Littlejohn.

Stuart has collected pennies for international charities since 2010.

“All my friends loved it and chipped in,” said Littlejohn.

With the help of the student body and local churches, Stuart has helped send a total of 65 wheelchairs to poor and disabled people in third-world countries.

“We I first started I raised about five wheelchairs. They were about $50 a piece and I got that in about a week. I wanted to see if I could keep going,” said Littlejohn.

“I got about 65 of them. It has been really successful,” said Littlejohn.

Stuart was recently honored for his efforts by the Selmer Rotary club as their youth volunteer of the year.

“Stuart Littlejohn is the kind of young man who makes other people better around him,” said Bobcat head coach Steve Forsythe.

“Not just his fellow students. He even makes adults think about how we should act and what we should be doing,” said Forsythe.
