Educator of the Week - Barker
HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn.- South Haven Elementary School second grade teacher, Kay Barker, loves building relationships with each of her students.
"I get to know them, their lives and what makes them special," said Barker. "And they become very special to me."
Barker tries to make her classroom a positive environment by being patient and kind.
"All kinds of things are happening in their lives and you want to adjust; you do adjust if you care about them," said Barker.
Barker does care, and she hopes her students do, too.
"I'm hoping they learn to be calm, be patient with other people and to treat them kindly," said Barker.
Barker said one of her favorite things about teaching is watching her students understand something new.
"It's worth it everyday to come in and see that. Even if it's just maybe once a day or twice a day, you know. It feels good and it makes me happy. It makes them happy," said Barker. "It makes me feel good everyday. It makes me feel young and I enjoy being around them because I get to see life in a different way."
