Educator of the Week - Floyd
Maury City Elementary School kindergarten teacher Abbey Floyd loves seeing her young students excited about learning.
"This is one of their first years in school, and I feel like if I don't make it fun now - the older they get, the harder school becomes," said Floyd. "I do every single thing I can think of to make this the very best part of their day."
Their enthusiasm gives her motivation.
"I never wake up in the morning and think, 'Ah, I've got to go to my job' - it never feels like a job," said Floyd. "We have so much fun. We sing and we dance, and we have fun learning."
Floyd said part of being a kindergarten teacher means letting go and getting comfortable.
"They don't care that I might be tone deaf, they don't care that I might not have the best dance moves, they don't care," said Floyd. "It's so easy to be comfortable with children this age because they think you're wonderful - just because."
This educator is wonderful just because she truly loves her job.
"I love doing this, and I believe this is what I was meant to do. And I'm lucky I found my calling so early," said Floyd. "I feel very blessed to know that I'm 26 and I'm working at my dream job - definitely."
