DYERSBURG, Tenn. - Originally a fashion merchandise major, Sandra Lanier says she believes that sometimes it takes time to figure out what we are supposed to do in life and when you do it all worth it.

"I realized after teaching for a while that this is where I'm supposed to be. This is part of my calling," Lanier said. "It came to me later; it wasn't an original thought."

Now a teacher for 22 years, Lanier believes that she is in the right spot at Dyersburg High School.

"I am teaching kids, kids now. Students that I've had before their kids are in my class. They make me feel old but I do still have that contact rapport with those students that I've had."

Whether through social media or by phone, Lanier explained that she is always there for her students.

"Everything here is related to family in some type of way. Whether it be career or in the community or in some way everything is related to family and that's the environment that we have a family oriented environment."

Knowing the difference made in a students lives takes time. Lanier says that when it comes there is no greater reward.

"To know you had a positive impact on them and that you didn't come into the world just to be born and die. You've had an effect on someone's life and an positive effect."
