Educator of the Week - Meadows
Kevin Meadows started out in the business world before beginning his career as an algebra teacher at North Side High School.
"When I decided I wanted to teach, it was because when I'm with kids, it gives me a certain amount of energy and a passion to better their lives," said Meadows.
He says that is because his former teachers bettered his life.
"When I was younger, I always wanted to be a teacher because all my mentors were teachers and coaches," said Meadows.
Meadows said it did not take long for him to realize he found his calling.
"From day one, I knew that after the first day of school that this is what I wanted to do for a career," said Meadows.
He believes that his job goes beyond just teaching the basics.
"An educator is not only supposed to teach a child, but be there for them and understand what they're going through in life," said Meadows. "When a parent doesn't have an answer, hopefully an educator does."
This educator does have the answers.
"If you're not close with them and you don't understand and relate to them, it's really a tough job," said Meadows. "But if you can do that, then this is the best job in the world.
