Educator of the Week - Reynolds

DYER, Tenn.- Dyer Elementary School first grade teacher Debbie Reynolds loves seeing her students learn new material.

"I think that's my favorite part; when you actually see the light bulb," said Reynolds. "It's very intrinsic. It just gives you a great feeling on the inside knowing that you have taught them and they have learned by something that you have showed them."

A former third grade teacher, this is Reynolds' first year teaching first grade. She said although it is a big change, she is enjoying her new class.

"Learning and meeting the students and getting to know them, because every class is different and every year is a new group of children," said Reynolds. "This group of children - I'm already connected to them. We're already bonding as a class; just as a class community."

Within the class community, Reynolds wants each student to know that she truly cares.

"Spending one-on-one time with them," said Reynolds. "If I see a need, taking that time to spend with that one-on-one child."

Reynolds is excited to see where first grade takes her young students.

"Hopefully, when they leave me and go onto second grade, they will have learned the standards of course that I teach them, but also how to be a good student," said Reynolds. "That they care about learning and that they care about school and that school is important to them."
