Educator of the Week - Sanders

Laura Bannon

NEWBERN, Tenn. - Candace Sanders is a fourth grade teacher who wants to make Newbern Elementary School a memorable place for her students.

"When you go home at the end of the day and your mom asks you how was your day, they usually say 'eh, okay.' I want them to tell them 'well, I had fun, we learned about idioms we did this we did this activity.' I want them to actually enjoy it and enjoy their learning," said Sanders.

The person who nominated Sanders says they her love and dedication to education should be recognized not only for a week but for the entire year.

"A teacher is never from 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m., it is always I'm working around the clock. I actually have dreams about school, I'll wake up and write them down. Education is not just about the time slot you're in you have to dedicate things outside of school."

Staying active in in the classroom is key to her students education.

"Engagement will impact them later on for college we are ultimately preparing them for college not just elementary school, I want them to pass 4th grade but I want them to more importantly go on to college."

That is why Sanders goes above and beyond to make sure that happens.

"Meet the standards in a way that is fun and exciting, that will engage students. An educator is someone who engages all students and enjoys it." she added, "It is not just someone who does the standards it's someone who goes in and loves school full kindheartedly."
