Educator of the Week -Guard
LEXINGTON, Tenn.- Ashton Guard is a 7th and 8th grade Language Arts teacher at South Haven Elementary School in Lexington.
"My favorite part of teaching is the students definitely. I love coming to school everyday to see my students," Guard said.
Guard has taught for three years and has been at South Haven Elementary for a little over a year and a half. Guard attended Freed-Hardeman University where she got her degree and followed in her mother's footsteps.
"My mom is a teacher and so I had her as a teacher. So I say she was the best example because I got taught by her and lived with her," Guard said.
Guard alluded to her natural drive and passion to teach, but admits it is not always easy.
"The only difficulty I may say is making sure I am getting them ready for that next step in high school. But I feel very confident in our students here," Guard stated.
During and after the school day, Guard is involved in a number of activities. She tutors students twice a week and co-sponsors the Junior Beta Club which is a service organization within the community. She also tries to do whatever possible to make a difference and feels that its important to show her students that she is involved in anyway possible.
Guard said she wants to see her students work hard and hopes she sets them on the right path to success with their future goals in life.
