Educator of the Week: Caldwell

Heather Mathis

GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. -- Preston Caldwell is a biology and chemistry teacher at Milan High School and believes the perfect formula in his class is laughter and learning.

Caldwell has been a teacher with Milan high for seventeen years, and says he is always trying to find new ways to make teaching science fun for his students.

"I try to get my kids up," Caldwell said. "I try to get them involved. We move around a good bit, and I try to add some fun to it. We learn when we enjoy."

Caldwell is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin and earned his masters from the University of Memphis.

Caldwell says his favorite part about teaching is building relationships with his students.

"Chemistry doesn't have to be so serious all the time," Caldwell said. "Hopefully they get out of my room that I care about them, I want them to be successful, and I want them to have some fun."

Caldwell will be eligible for the statewide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award. To vote for him go to To nominate a teacher for our weekly award, email us at
