MCKENZIE, Tenn. - Every day, nearly 8,000 children under the age of five die because of hunger-related causes

Today, the youth of McKenzie First Cumberland Presbyterian Church teamed up with Long Heights Baptist Church, looking to do something about it.

With the World Vision's 30 Hour Famine, members chose not to eat for 30 hours and instead raised money to help provide food and care for kids in need worldwide.

During famine weekend, they will also work in the community, doing service projects to make a local impact.

Today, more than 300 families received a grocery cart filled with food.

"It will get them to become others-oriented," said student pastor Greg Barker. "We are given this life to come together and give to others. That's what we hope our students get out of this. Serving God; and through his grace, power and mercy, we can go out and serve others"
