Local officials and Jackson residents got together Sunday to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001.

The city's remembrance ceremony kicked off at 2:30 p.m. at Liberty Garden Park in North Jackson.

Attendees got to hear and feel just how big of an impact this heinous attack had on America.

Jackson's first responders, along with city and county officials, recounted how that September day changed America.

As most do, attendees remembered precisely where they were when the attacks occurred.

"I was actually at work," resident Andrea Maxwell said. "I was a waitress. I was in college. I just remember watching at home. I was watching, getting ready for work. The whole day was in disbelief."

Organizers said the park serves as a living memorial to September 11 in hopes that everyone will remember the gift of freedom.
