TBI investigates Camden homicide
CAMDEN, Tenn. -- A man in Camden is dead after an early morning shooting on Sunday. The neighborhood stands quiet waiting for answers why this happened.
Family members who live on Rowsey Street say their loved one was 47 years old. He was shot and died Sunday morning after an extended family member allegedly killed him.
"It's a little bit concerning, like I said, we are all extended families and right now everybody just needs - each family needs - prayers going out to them," Camden resident Deborah Shephard said, who said she is concerned for her family.
Residents said they came outside around 2 a.m. Sunday. They say they heard a commotion outside with at least two people, with one man who was standing on the street and the other in his vehicle.
Neighbors explained they heard two shots fired, and after the second shot, the victim ran off the road and into a tree, where he died.
The TBI arrested Eddie Lee Laws in connection to the shooting. The 52-year-old Camden man faces a charge of unlawful possession of a weapon. They say more charges could be filed.
The TBI is also still investigating the relationship between Laws and the 47-year old victim, and what led to the gunfire.
"I hate that this tragedy had to happen and we are extending our prayers out to both families. This is a good neighborhood and we just want to have everybody to keep everybody in their prayers," Shephard said.
Camden Police patrolled the crime scene, but say the TBI is now assisting in the investigation.
Camden Police are asking anyone with information to give them a call or contact the TBI.
