UPDATE: Explosion at Kilgore Plant in Toone
TOONE, Tenn.-- UPDATE: Don Taylor, Hardeman County Emergency Management Director, says the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) has issued a federal search warrant to search the Kilgore plant.
At least one employee is hurt after an explosion at the Kilgore Plant in Toone, according to Hardeman County Deputies.
According to Hardeman County Emergency Management Director, Don Taylor, local, state and federal agencies are on site, but Kilgore Flares Company, LLC will not allow them access to the building to conduct an investigation. Taylor tells WBBJ Federal ATF agents are going through the proper channels to find out why.
Taylor says the following agencies are on site:
Bureau of Federal Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives
Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC)
State Fire Marshal's Office
Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA)
Toone Fire Chief
Hardeman County Sheriff's Office and deputies
Hardeman County Emergency Management Agency
The explosion happened on 10:49 a.m. on Saturday. The victim, Michael Chism, has severe burns and was flown to the burn unit at The MED in Memphis, according to firefighters. Taylor says Chism is in very critical condition.
Deputies say there could be several people hurt, but the number is not clear at this time. Deputies say they are on their way to investigate.
Kilgore Flares Company LLC manufactures products for the Department of Defense.
