TRENTON, Tenn. -- Paul Thomas has won the title of Gibson County Sheriff.

Thomas defeated incumbent Chuck Arnold by just 25 votes. He is Gibson County's first new sheriff in eight years. Thomas says this is a dream come true.

"It's unbelievable, I've worked hard for 20 years in this career and it all culminated tonight," Thomas said.

Thomas says he's humbled by the residents who made this all possible.

"The voters of Gibson County recognized my hard work during this campaign and saw how hard I work," Thomas said. "They knew this was what I wanted and they knew I could do it so they trusted me with it."

Thomas says he's excited to step into his new position next month and hopes to bring in something different.

"New blood, young blood," Thomas said. "I've been working narcotics for the past 12 years so I'm proactive on the streets. I'm aggressive on the streets. I want to bring that to the sheriff's department."
