MILAN, Tenn. - A building that once housed a thriving business is being torn down after sitting empty for at least 10 years.

On Wednesday, construction crews began tearing down the former home to Cole's Department Store in Milan.

Residents said they are glad the building is finally coming down.

They said it is an eyesore. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News was told it is about 100 years old.

City officials are applying for a grant to put in a tornado safe shelter and senior citizen center in the same location.

Construction workers hope to finish the tear-down by Thursday at 4 p.m.
