JACKSON Tenn. - Local non-profit Redemption Road Rescue is asking for West Tennesseans' help to give homes to abused horses.

The shelter has taken in 30 abused horses this year, and 20 of them are healthy and ready to find their forever home.

"We are just asking people to open their hearts this Christmas season and maybe help animals that are less fortunate that have had such a difficult time," said volunteer Melissa Floyd.

According to the rescue, they pay out of pocket for the rehabilitation of the 30 horses, each costing $15 to $25 a day per horse to take care of.

"Everything that these horses are having to have to bring them back to a decent condition and that is financially taxing us to no end," said Floyd.

Redemption Road Rescue said they will be posting a Christmas wish and needs list on their Facebook page for people who want to help.
