Accused Thief Caught on Tape Burglarizing Liquor Store

JACKSON, Tenn.--Jackson police say someone targeted two liquor stores on the same night.

Surveillance video caught a man on camera stealing from Southside Liquors Inc. early Saturday morning. “This is supposed to be a good, safe, part of Jackson,” said Margaret Johns, store manager. “Now it's like questionable.”

The man moves in and out of the store in less than a minute. “Apparently, they knew exactly what they wanted and they knew exactly where it sat,” said Johns.

Less than two hours earlier, just miles away, police say someone tried to break into Hollywood Liquors.

“The type of glass he has, it's a type of plexistyle glass and it wouldn't shatter, so they couldn't get in,” said Investigator Marvin Rodish, with the Jackson Police Department.

Officers say they believe the two crimes are connected. “Just the timeline, looking at both videos, it appears that the suspects are the same,” said Rodish.

Detectives are looking for a white or tan minivan. The suspect is a black man wearing a white polo shirt. “They deserve to have to pay for what they've done and what they're gonna cost this store,” said Johns.

Officers expect repairs to cost the stores hundreds of dollars. Rodish says the suspect will likely face vandalism, burglary, and theft charges.
