Affidavit: Business Owner Set Fire to Her Store
CARROLL COUNTY Tenn.- A McKenzie business owner and her friend have been arrested. The pair is accused of setting fire to the popular downtown gift shop, "Impressions."
McKenzie Police charged Christien D. Radford, 40, and her friend Spencer L. Underwood, 23, with arson. The store was destroyed in a fire on December 10, 2012.
"It's pretty bad," said shopper Patricia Love. "I hate to think she did that. Hopefully she didn't."
Friends of Radford told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News in December that the store was her dream, and she had worked years to build it.
Residents said they loved the store, and hope she was not responsible.
"I just hope she's not," said Joshua Pearson. "There's really not a good reason to burn down a building."
According to court paperwork, Radford made a comment to her daughter that said she and Underwood started the fire. Firefighters said the flames put other stores in danger.
"They have businesses, too. Their livelihood, and things they have to take care of also," said Love.
Officers said Radford has been released on bond. Underwood is currently jailed in Henry County on unrelated charges.
