Afternoon Crash Claims Life of JMC Band Director

JACKSON, Tenn.- A crash involving a Jackson-Madison County school bus and a district employee in a second vehicle has claimed the life of that driver.
The crash happened at the intersection of Lane Avenue and Royal Street around 4 p.m. Friday. According to Jackson-Madison County Superintendent Dr. Verna Ruffin, the employee was Madison Academic band director Michael Congiardo.
Crews had to cut Congiardo out of the car. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Dr. Ruffin said Congiardo passed away early Friday evening.
A spokesperson from the Jackson-Madison County School System released this statement:
"It is with heavy heart that the JMCSS informs you that Mr. Michael Congiardo, band director at Madison Academic Magnet High School has passed away due to internal injuries sustained in an accident (Friday) afternoon. Our hearts and prayers are with his family and the faculty and students at Madison Academic."
Earlier, a district spokesperson said Congiardo's car ran the stop light at the intersection. No students were on the bus and the bus driver was not injured.
