Altrusa International of Jackson held its 60th annual Woman of the year banquet, Tuesday night.
This year's winner was Miss Jackie Utley, a Jackson native known for her extensive community service, through groups like the Jackson-Madison County Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution and Ballet Arts. Organizers said she was an easy choice based on her devotion to helping the elderly, veterans and helping guide young people.
"It's amazing. I was honored and humble and just completely astonished that I was chosen," said Jackie Utley, Woman of the Year. "Reading the names of the past winners I can't imagine being mentioned in the same breath with a lot of these ladies."
Altrusa of Jackson is a service organization of professional women and have been providing community services to West Tennessee since 1949.
