JACKSON, Tenn.- The proceeds from an area marathon were presented to the Exchange Club/Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse.
A total of $23,000 was donated to the center from the proceeds of the Andrew Jackson Marathon. The donation came from the entry fees of the close to 800 participants in the longest running marathon in the Volunteer State.
Organizers said Carl Perkins Center is the perfect destination for their donation to be heading.
"What you need to do is break the cycle of abuse, and that's what the Carl Perkins Center does, so we support that 100 percent," said Julie McMahon, president of the Bicentennial Exchange Club.
The Andrew Jackson marathon will be running again next year and organizers said they hope to surpass their donations for this year.
