DECATUR COUNTY Tenn. - According to the Decatur County Sheriff's Department, at least $20,000 worth of goods have been stolen in a string of home burglaries.

Almost a dozen homes have been broken into within the last week. Residents of the Lost Creek and White Creek communities said their homes were completely cleaned out.

"It's just a real peaceful community, and we just hate that these things happen," said Jo Gurley, who has been a Lost Creek resident for more than 25 years.

Lost Creek Manager, Andy Redding, said he has spoken with several home owner's hit and can not believe this happened.

"They kicked in the doors and just wiped out everything the homes had in them," said Redding.

The community has more than 250 homes but only 30-40 percent are occupied full time. Officials said burglars hit several homes that are only occupied on the weekends.

"So many of the people don't live here. The ones that are doing it they pretty well know who's there, and who's not there. They scope it out and know what they are doing," said Gurley

The sheriff's department is still searching for those who may be responsible, while weekend residents are being notified of the home invasions.
