SILERTON, Tenn- It is a living U.S symbol that was shot down in Silerton, earlier this week. Hardeman County wildlife officers responded to a report of a bald eagle shot near Highway 125. Now they are looking for the person who is responsible.

These birds are off limits under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. People in Silerton said the person responsible should be punished.

"They're irresponsible and if they do have a hunting license or gun permit, it should be pulled from them," said.

Officials said the bird may not fly again, due to injuries. It is being treated at the Memphis Veterinary Specialists Clinic and expected to undergo surgery later this week.

There is a $7,500 reward for any information that helps the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency find the person that is responsible.
