JACKSON, Tenn. - A worker at Batteries Plus along Vann Drive in north Jackson was sprayed with pepper spray as he took out the trash, Sunday afternoon, and the store robbed. A community corrections offender who was working in the area is suspected

The victim told police he was sprayed with pepper spray by a man wearing an orange shirt. Offenders ordered to perform community service work were in the area at the time and many were wearing orange vests.

Officers rounded up the offenders and questioned them. One man was found to have a large amount of cash on him and is being held for questioning. However, no charges have been filed against him.

Those who work in the area say seeing so much police activity around them made them feel very uneasy. "I wouldn't expect it to happen here, not in this area," said Jan Childress. "I've always felt safe around here, but it makes you think twice."

The worker who was attacked was taken to the hospital but is expected to be OK.
