Benton County SD Investigating Apparent Shootout
An apparent shootout is how two men are accused of trying to solve their problems.
According to the Benton County Sheriff's Department, two men in their 60s have been arrested after having a shootout early Monday morning. Although no one was hurt, officials said this is no western movie and a shootout is not how adults in any decade should solve their problems.
A fight over a boat motor is what officials said drove William Singleton, 64, of Big Sandy, to the home of George Hughes, 69. After Singleton pulled up to the Hughes residence, investigators said the men are said to have gotten into an argument involving the motor and then pulled out their guns.
Deputies said shots were fired by both men but no one was injured. Singleton called the sheriff's department and said he had been shot by Hughes, but authorities said they did not see any wounds.
Hughes and Singleton were arrested around 3:45 a.m., Monday.
Hughes has been charged with aggravated assault while Singleton has been charged with unlawful carrying or possession of a firearm and fabricating/tampering with evidence.
Both have been released on bond and will appear in Benton County General Sessions Court on June 20.
