DECATUR COUNTY, TN -- The body of an elderly Decatur County man was discovered early morning in a river after an intense search effort.

Early Sunday evening 69-year-old Julian Holmes was reported missing by his family when he didn't come home from fishing.

During the search, his fishing boat was found tied up to a tree and flipped over in Beech River. Tennessee Highway Patrol and several sheriff and police departments assisted with the search using boats and search dogs.

A body was found in Beech River and later identified as Julian Holmes. Perry County Public Information Officer Will Nunley said investigators have not confirmed exactly how he died.

"It had been a while since he had been out boating, according to reports we had. But this was a spot that he knew and headed out here earlier in the afternoon but had not returned home when he said that he was going to so that's when the family became concerned," said Nunley.

Family told 7 Eyewitness News Holmes was retired and lived in Decaturville with his wife. He is also survived by two children and four grandchildren.
