Bolivar Student-Athlete Remembered
BOLIVAR, Tenn- Students at Bolivar Central High School celebrated the life of Donald Hemker on Saturday afternoon, who was killed in a tragic wreck on Oct. 28.
According to Deputies, 16-year old Hemker was killed early that morning when the car he was driving was hit by a tractor trailer on Highway 57 in Hardeman County.
On Saturday afternoon, friends and family wore green shirts were made and sold as a memorial for him. The shirts have his name and number 4 on the back (his jersey number for Bolivar) and on the front they have the phrase "That's My Dawg" on it, which was his catch phrase that he always said.
Residents of Bolivar wore green shirts and Middleton residents wore orange shirts. Hemker played baseball in both communities.
School faculty said this is the third wreck involving Bolivar students and former students in less than a week, two of the accidents being fatal.
Faculty and students said Hemker was a noted baseball player, a good student, and an even better friend.
