Brownsville Needs Examined

University Of Memphis students are hitting the streets of Brownsville, asking neighbors how to 'build a better city'. The team is part of a project between the university and city leaders, to create a comprehensive growth plan for Brownsville.

Earlier this year, students distributed some 60 disposable cameras to volunteer citizens, who then documented what they thought were strengths and weaknesses in the city. Among the strengths: the library, the wildlife refuge and the court square. Large parking lots and the school system were among the items tagged as 'needs improvement'.

The results of some of the studies will be released to city leaders in the coming weeks. Meanwhile students are asking anyone in the city that wishes to participate, to continue to offer feedback by visiting
