ALAMO, Tenn. - Sam Jones lived in his apartment on South Burns Street in Alamo for decades until he passed away Wednesday Night. The following morning his daughter, Connie Robinson went to the home to clean up and make preparations for his funeral when she heard a noise coming from the outside.

"They heard the glass break and they walked in the kitchen and saw an arm coming through the window," Alamo Police Chief Gary Skipper said.

Robinson told investigators the thought of someone breaking into her dad's house enraged her. According to the police report, Robinson grabbed a knife and chased after the intruder yelling. She told Chief
Skipper her initial reaction was to jump on the man.

"She could have got hurt. People don't need to jump on burglars or anything because he had two knives himself," Chief Skipper said.

Police said in the break-in of Sam Jones' apartment, as well as others in the complex the thieves were looking for prescription pills. Brandon Holder's home was burglarized and some of his mother's medications were stolen a month and a half ago.

"I am totally dedicated to whoping this guys.... you know... without getting too vulgar about it," Holder said.

Minutes later, less than a block away Tevin Mayfield was spotted matching the description of the burglar. Mayfield was brought to the Crockett County Jail where Sheriff Troy Klyce said his deputies recognized him as the man suspected of raping an eight-year-old girl.

Residents who live in the complex said they feel a sense of relief that a man accused of attacking the homes of the elderly and a young girl is behind bars.

"You wanna mess with these old people around here? Why don't you come and mess with me," Holder said.

Chief Skipper says Robinson's actions were heroic and may have saved her life. He recommends calling 911 and not chasing after an intruder. Neighbors in the complex said they will not hesitate to take matters into their own hands.

"If you wanna commit some crimes, commit them on me. Because I will definitely retaliate and show you a good time," Holder said.

Tevin Mayfield is being held at the Crockett County jail. He is being charged with aggravated burglary as well as the rape of an eight year old girl. Mayfield will be in court August 1.
