JACKSON, Tenn. - At least two people appear to be in custody after gunfire, a chase and a violent car crash in east Jackson, late Monday night.
Just before 11 p.m., a black sedan crashed into a utility pole in the 600 block of Lexington Ave. following a brief chase with Jackson police. Power was lost by some in the area.
One of the men inside appeared to be thrown from the vehicle. He could be heard screaming in pain and was taken from the scene by ambulance. A female was also taken into custody. She did not appear to be hurt.
It is unclear how many other people were in the car and were able to get away. Officers could be seen searching school buses at nearby Isaac Lane Elementary. K-9 officers were also used to search woods in the area.
This all apparently started with a shooting along Holland Avenue. Calls to police began coming in at 10:49 p.m. At least nine shell casings could be seen littering the street.
Witnesses, who were too scared to talk on camera, said they saw several people get out of a black car, surround the house on Holland and open fire. The witnesses said after the spray of gunfire they got back into the car and took off. An officer caught up with the fleeing car with in seconds.
