JACKSON, Tenn.- If you want to get rid of your live Christmas tree, the City of Jackson has an environmentally friendly way to dispose of your tree instead of taking it to the landfill instead of taking it to the landfill.
Keep Jackson Beautiful is again sponsoring and getting ready for the annual "Chipping of the Green" event.
Organizers and volunteers will spend the day turning old trees into small wood chips. They said it is a great alternative to throwing them away. The wood chips can be used for garden pathways of for using as compost.
From now until Saturday, you can take your live tree and drop it off at the Fire Training Station at 720 South Highland.
Trees will be fed through a grinder and the chips will be bagged and available for pickup by the public at no charge. The "Chipping of the Green" event will be held Saturday morning from 9 a.m to 11 a.m.
