Church Group Helps Repair Jackson Homes

7 Eyewitness News Staff

A local church group was out, Monday finishing up weeks of repairs on an east Jackson home.

Members f First Presbyterian Church have been working, free of charge to help low-income home owners get their property up to city code.

The program called the Low Income Homeowner's Assistance Program, helps property owners who could not afford the necessary repairs to keep them out of court.

As part of the program, the city will provide material for the repairs and then local volunteer groups provide the labor.

"I think it shows a unity amongst people, in general, people coming from outside of east Jackson coming in and helping, just out of the goodness of their hearts," said Sylvester Bingham of Neighborhood Services.

Low-income property owners must apply for the program to be eligible.
