City Files Nuisance Action Against Hale St. Bar
JACKSON, Tenn. - The City of Jackson has filed a nuisance action against a mid-town bar.
According to a news release, the action was filed in an attempt to close Larry's Sports Bar, which is located at 305 Hale Street. The city claims that several illegal activities happen at the bar and the business is a nuisance for the neighborhood and the city.
The bar, also known as Ike's Disco and the Hale Street Disco, has been the scene of several incidents over the last several years. Court documents stated 42 calls for service have been made to police concerning criminal acts that have occurred at the business. Those calls included five assaults, three fights, one shots fired call, one robbery and a hit and run.
Additionally, the business allegedly had its business license revoked after a shots fired incident, fire code violations and an illegal gambling operation was found on the property.
"The city remains committed to using all available tools to fight the businesses in all parts of our city whose activities create a climate which invites or attracts criminal activity," said Mayor Gist in the news release.
The nuisance action also alleges the bar sells food items but does not have current documentation of a health inspection. The property also does not have the proper cooking and ventilation mechanisms for proper operation of a business preparing food.
