Councilman Hosts Clean Energy Conference

A group met on the campus of Jackson State Community College, Thursday to learn the latest on renewable energy.

Government and educational leaders partnered with the Tennessee Renewable Energy and Economic Development Council for a third community forum and educational seminar on clean energy.

Those attending heard from officials with the Jackson Energy Authority about the utility's use of solar energy, participation in the TVA Green Switch program and waste minimization.

One city leader said such a renewable energy leads to economic opportunities and savings for government, area business owners and operators.

"I hope they take away that there are many different available applications for cities and municipalities for them to reduce their energy costs through renewable energy," said Jackson City Councilman,Ernest Brooks.

The Tennessee Renewable Energy and Economic Development Council is a statewide grassroots organization of 75 cities and counties promoting the economic benefits of clean energy for cities and municipalities.
