JACKSON, Tenn. – A new study says you can trick your body to lose calories 11 different ways, just in time for Thanksgiving, as long as you work out. 76-year-old Reba Stonn hits the gym three times a week. "I do the bike for 15 miles, that's why I'm saying I do it more than most people do," Stonn said. According to the study, from the University of Alabama, you should eat fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Foods like herring and tuna help to regulate metabolism. Dietitian at the Lift, Nicole Hancock, says instead of having the traditional turkey this year, try salmon instead. "Trying to lose weight through the holidays is extremely difficult," Hancock said. "Really what I try and get people to focus on is maintaining it as much as possible." The study says you can build muscle by exercising. Drink green tea for an active ingredient, Catechin, which according to the study cranks up metabolism. Eat enough calories to match your resting metabolic weight or what you'd burn if you stayed in bed all day. The study also says you shouldn't miss breakfast. Do light nibbling throughout the day and get plenty of protein. Also don't forget to trim trans fat, something Stonn says she's familiar with. "I can't have no ham, everything has to be baked, boiled," Stonn said. The study also suggests ramping up your exercise intensity in 30 second intervals and going organic. This method they say, will help you consume more oxygen and burn more energy.
