Vehicle Crashes into House, Starts Fire near Humboldt

GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. - Officials believe they have found the man who crashed a vehicle into a home killing a woman in Gibson County.

First responders were called to the scene U.S. Highway 70-79 and State Highway 187 around 5:00 a.m., Wednesday.

Authorities reported two vehicles were traveling on Highway 187 and one of the cars side-swiped the other. The driver of the vehicle that was side-swiped attempted to follow the other vehicle to get a license plate number.

When that driver found the other car, it had crashed into a home and a fire had started near the intersection of Highway 187 and Humboldt Highway. That man reportedly helped two women out of the home but a third woman in the home was killed. The woman who died as a result of the crash was identified as Bobbie Pauline Walker, 77.

The driver of the vehicle that crashed into the car allegedly fled the scene. Investigators were able to find the owner of the vehicle who said it had been stolen from him. Investigators believe a 20-year-old neighbor was the person who stole the car.

That man as been identified as Cody Ryan Buchanan of Humboldt. He was taken into custody, tested for alcohol intoxication and is being booked into the Gibson County Jail according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Buchanan is charged with reckless homicide, DUI second offense and leaving the scene of an accident with injury. Investigators said if blood tests show Buchanan was intoxicated, charges could be amended to more serious counts. Bond has yet to be set.
