Crockett Co. Family Talks About Murder Arrest
CROCKETT COUNTY. Tenn.- The family of Crockett County murder victim, Matthew McKnight, talked exclusively to WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News about the arrest of Antonio Toomes, 29, made on Wednesday.
Matthew's father, Don McKnight said he has waited for this day since his only son was murdered in October of 2012.
"It seemed like a long time coming, but actually it was only a few months. Some people wait for years," said McKnight.
The TBI now says agents believe Matthew walked into his home being burglarized, and possibly got into a physical fight with Toomes before being fatally shot. According to the TBI, forensic evidence found at the crime scene linked Toomes to the murder.
"Even bad things work out for good sometimes, and that's just what we have to believe in now," said McKnight.
Toomes is facing charges of first degree felony murder, especially aggravated robbery, and especially aggravated burglary.
The investigation is still ongoing, but McKnight says the family is starting to heal, "It's not the end. It's really just the beginning."
Toomes will appear in Crockett County general sessions court on Tuesday, February 19.
