JACKSON, Tenn.- A north Jackson church continued its years-long tradition Friday by raising a cross in front of their church building.

Close to 100 members of Calvary Baptist Church gathered on their front lawn Friday afternoon for the special ceremony of music and scripture.

Members said they do this every year in hopes of reminding passersby about the real reason for the Easter season.

"This is a time where we are going to slow down in the middle of what's normally a busy Friday and take some time to think about and dwell upon what Christ has done for us on the cross," said Grant Gaines, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Jackson.

Several other churches in the area held special Good Friday services and commemorations.
