Deadline to Register to Vote Approaches

By news admin

JACKSON, Tenn. - Saturday is the last day to register to vote by mail, if you want to participate in the November 6 election in Tennessee. But you can register to vote in person through Monday.

The Madison County Election Commission has been busy this week. Officials tell us 500 new Madison County voters have registered to vote this week. That brings the total number of registered voters in Madison County to 65,111.

It is not just new voters who might need to stop by their election commission office on Monday. "If you have moved since the last time you voted, you need to be in touch with us," said Kim Buckley, Madison County Administrator of Elections. "We need to get your voter registration updated before you go vote."

The reason mail-in applications must be put in the mail by Saturday is because the US Postal Service will be closed on Monday, which is the federal holiday of Columbus Day. Most West Tennessee Election Commission Offices will be open on Monday, despite the holiday.
