Deputy Demoted in Assault Investigation

The investigation into the Madison County deputy accused of inmate abuse at the Penal Farm last week, has concluded.

The findings caused Sheriff David Woolfork to demote Sergeant Vick Kendrick to the rank of Deputy., effective immediately, and resulting in more than a $6,200 annual reduction in pay. He was also moved to the Madison County Criminal Justice Complex.

Investigators found that on April 16, Kendrick struck an inmate on the shoulder with a key chain ball, then later grabbed him, causing him to fall. He was also accused of grabbing another inmate and scratching him with a metal washer on his right rib cage.

Kendrick was cited for violating two department policies involving conduct and use of force.
